Japan CCS Co., Ltd. and the Global CCS Institute hosted a virtual event “Japan-Asia CCUS Forum 2020” on October 6, 2020, under the theme “Outlook for deployment of CCS/CCUS in Japan and Asia”.
Held for the first time, 1,122 people from around the world pre-registered, of which 788 people participated.
To open the forum, Mr. Koichi Munekiyo, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry gave his remarks, followed by Mr. Izuru Kobayashi, Director of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
In Part 1, Mr. Hirofumi Iwakura, Mayor of Tomakomai City offered his greetings, representing the region providing strong support for the Tomakomai CCS Demonstration Project. Next, the latest information on CCS/CCUS technology development in Japan was presented through the results and learnings of the Tomakomai Project, which Japan CCS is implementing in Tomakomai City under commissioning by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
In Part 2, there were discussions on the further deployment of CCS in Japan, and in Part 3, international speakers discussed the future deployment of CCS and capacity building in Asia, as well as strengthening international cooperation on CCS/CCUS in Asia.
